Name of Product: Love.Hugs.Peace lapel pins

Units: About 26,500 pins in the United States and 2,200 in Canada

Importer: Build-A-Bear Workshop®, of St. Louis, Mo.

Hazard: Surface paints on the lapel pin contain excessive levels of lead which is prohibited under federal law.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: The 1.5 inch lapel pin features graphics of a heart, bear head, and peace sign all positioned in front of a globe. The words “Love.Hugs.Peace.” appear at the bottom of the pin.

Sold by: Build-A-Bear Workshop stores nationwide and online at www.buildabear.com from July 2009 through October 2010 for $3.50 in the US and $4 (CDN) in Canada.

Remedy: Stop using the lapel pins and return the lapel pin to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store to receive a $5 store coupon. If it is not possible to return the pin to a store, you can contact the company for alternate instructions on receiving a refund.

Distributor: EKSuccess Brands, a division of Wilton Brands Inc., of Woodbridge, Ill.

Hazard: The surface coating on some of the beads contains excessive levels of lead, which is prohibited under federal law.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves the Pearly Beads & Ribbon Bracelets kit distributed under the American Girl Crafts name with a SKU number of 30-585331. The SKU number is located on the back of the package in the lower right corner. The kit contains 56 pieces. The beads in the jewelry kit are pink, blue, orange and white. Some pink beads have darker pink butterflies imprinted on them. The ribbons in the kit are orange, red, blue and purple.

Sold at: Michaels Stores and other retailers nationwide from September 2009 through June 2011 for about $8.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled kits and any finished bracelets made from the kits away from children and contact the company for a full refund.

Description: This recall involves a mood necklace which is 18 inches in length and an adjustable ring. The products change colors when the user’s “mood” changes. “Love Tester” and “Are You In the Mood” are labeled on the products’ packaging. The products are sold separately.

Sold at: Small retail stores nationwide from September 2005 through June 2010 for about $4.

Name of Product: Chuck E Cheese’s Light-up Rings and Star Glasses

Units: About 1,100,000 Light-up Rings and 120,000 Star Glasses

Hazard: If crushed or pulled apart, the plastic casing can break into small pieces and possibly expose the batteries, posing an ingestion hazard to children. If ingested, the batteries may be damaging to either the stomach, intestine, esophagus or nasal mucus membrane.

Incidents/Injury: There have been two reported incidents involving the Light-Up Rings. One involved a child swallowing a battery, the other involved a child inserting a battery into his nostril. There are no reported incidents involving the Star Glasses.

Description:

Light-Up Rings – The rings were distributed as part of a promotional product offering or during parent-teacher association conventions. The ring measures 1 1/8 inches across and is made of plastic with a black elastic band. The ring comes in several colors – blue, green, purple, yellow, and pink. The back of the ring is fastened either with screws or glue.
Star Glasses – The glasses were distributed as part of a birthday package. The glasses measure about 5 1/2 inches across by 2 1/2 inches tall and are made of red translucent plastic and have the words Chuck E. Cheese’s painted on the side.

Sold at: Chuck E Cheese’s Restaurants from April 2009 through June 2010 (Light-up Rings) and April through August 2010 (Star Glasses).

Light-Up Rings – Consumers should immediately take the Light-Up Ring away from children and return it to any Chuck E. Cheese’s to receive their choice of either a refund of $1.00 plus four Chuck E. Cheese’s tokens or a Soccer Promo-Cup plus four Chuck E. Cheese’s tokens.
Star Glasses – Consumers should immediately take the Star Glasses away from children and return them to any Chuck E. Cheese’s for your choice of either a refund of $4.99 or a Flashing Hands prize product.

Daiso Recalls Children’s Coin Purses and Jewelry Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

Hazard: The surface paint on the zippers of the coin purses and the clasps on the jewelry contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Description: This recall involves children’s coin purses with rainbow stripes and children’s earrings and necklaces that have blue, pink, red, white and yellow colored droplets. “The Coin Purse” and “Mobile Case Coin Puase” are printed on the tag attached to the purse. “Colorful Drop Accessory Bracelet” is printed on the front of the necklace packages and “Colorful Drop Accessory Pierce” is printed on the front of the earring packages. The tag and packaging have “Produced for Daiso Japan” on either the front or back.

Sold at: Daiso stores in California and Washington from May 2009 through December 2009 for about $1.50.

Distributed at: Doctor and dentist offices nationwide from June 2005 through March 2010 for free.

The pendants have various animated symbols including a dog tag with fire symbol (Bleach), knife and lion symbol (Final Fantasy), Mickey Mouse symbol (Kingdom of Hearts), and a burning sun symbol (Naruto). The pendants were sold with silver-colored chains.
