Name of Product: Girls’ hooded sleeveless vests

Manufacturer: MIM-PI USA LLC, of Orlando, Fla.

Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves girls’ hooded sleeveless vests with drawstrings sold in sizes 2 through 10. The vests were sold in two colors: blue with pink flowers and black with white polka dots. Both styles have a fake fur trim around the hood and a black sweater-like knit trim at the armholes and waist. The vests have an interior zipper covered by an exterior flap closure and a sewn-in neck tag that reads “mim-pi.”

Sold at: Children’s clothing stores nationwide from January 2009 through December 2009 for about $70.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the recalled garments to eliminate the hazard. Consumers can also return the vests to the place of purchase for a store credit.

Hazard: The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to young children. Description: This recall involves girl’s velour hooded sweatshirts with a zip front. The sweatshirts were sold as a part of a 2-piece set. “Major Diva” is printed on the front of the sweatshirts. The tag on the inside of the sweatshirts reads, “2b REAL.” The sweatshirts were sold in hot pink, light pink, ivory and khaki, and in sizes 4, 5/6 and 6X.

Sold exclusively at: Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide from October 2008 through July 2009 for about $11.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard, or return the garments to either the place of purchase or to Allura Imports for a full refund.

Quiksilver Recalls Roxy Girl “Very Nice” Girls’ Cotton Hoodies with Waist Drawstrings Due to Entrapment Hazard

Hazard: The cotton hoodie has a waist drawstring that could pose an entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: The cotton hoodie, which zips in front and has a drawstring at the waist, came in gray with blue lining and cherry with lavender lining. They were sold in girls’ sizes SML-XL. ROXY is printed on the front of the gray hoodie and on the neck label on both colors. The style number, B487857, is printed on the inside care label near the waist.

Sold at: Nordstrom, Macy’s, Quiksilver Stores and various surf, sport, and other retailers nationwide from April 2009 through August 2009 for approximately $40.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the hoodies to eliminate the hazard or return it to the place of purchase or to Quiksilver for a full refund.

Description: This recall involves the Harajuku Lovers Hooded Jackets with the RSL Hoodie & Lovers Leopard styles. The RSL Hoodie style has numerous pictures of girls riding motor scooters and the words “ready steady love” printed on it. The Lovers Leopard style has a leopard design in grey and black.“Harajuku Lovers” is printed on a tag sawn next to the care label.

Sold at: Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, and other retailers nationwide from August 2008 through January 2009 for about $75.

Description: The recalled blue denim jackets have a white terrycloth underlay lining and drawstring. The jackets were sold in children’s sizes medium (7-10), large (11-14) and x-large (15-16). Style numbers BF1400 K and BF1400 KP are printed on the hang tag attached to the garment.

Sold at: T.J. Maxx, J.C. Penney, and Forman Mills stores nationwide from August 2006 through December 2007 for between $13 and $33.
